Dealing with Fall Injuries

Fall injuries result in damage to muscles, bone fractures, spinal injury, and serious head injury and it can cause serious disability or death. Dealing with fall Injuries immediately is very necessary because it can be a big loss for victims.

Causes of fall Injuries

Know the Victim’s Situation

  1. Check if the victim has suffered any injuries or bone fractures and treat accordingly.
  2. The victim’s confusion signs are vision impairment, nausea, and drowsiness.
  3. A medical good rule is that if the head is injured, the neck may be also injured.
  4. After ensuring that the victim stops breathing or has no pulse, then need to start CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), and AED (Automated External Defibrillator).

First Aid Procedure

  2. Be prepared mentally and physically to treat the victim it may shock you.
  3. Neutralize all hazards at the spot before attending to the victim.

  5. Head Injuries:
    • Any head injury should be treated as soon as possible to control the wasting of blood. Only you can control the bleeding from the head in the first aid treatment.

    • Treat the wound. In case of complications try to transfer the victim to the hospital as soon as possible.
  6. Spinal Injuries:
    • Stabilize and straighten the head and neck by placing your hands on both sides of the victim’s head.
    • Keep the head in line with the spine and prevent any type of movement. Avoid twisting their head or not allowing their head to roll to the side.
    • Roll a t-shirt, towel, or similar soft item and place it around their head and neck to remind them to keep their head straight.
  7. Call local emergency services or ambulance and reassure the victim.

Transfer of injured person to the hospital

  1. If in doubt about how the person has been crushed, seek medical advice before moving it.
  2. Monitor the victim, and incident place, and document the incident.
