EMS emergency management system

There are 6 steps in the EMS emergency management system. The steps are Prevention, Mitigation, Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Record. Make a slogan of industrial safety solutions and industrial environment safety.

1. Prevention

1. Awareness

Creating awareness in workers about safety and self-protection from hazards at the workplace is necessary to control incidents. For this purpose, companies gain different sources and methods. Like training in different emergencies or posters about these emergencies awareness and arranging seminars for this purpose.

2. Safety culture

Strict all workers to follow the rules of safety. This thing makes safety habits in workers and makes it easy for workers to follow the safety rules and PPEs. A good EHS department can make this possible by keeping watch on workers.

3. 5s and housekeeping

Good housekeeping of every object and maintenance of the workplace according to work situation is very necessary for safety.

2. Mitigation

1. Material management

All materials should be placed separately according to the item categories. Like sharp-edge tools and objects that are placed carefully, hazardous items, and nonhazardous items.

2. Material categories

Chemicals should be placed separately according to categories like acids, bases, and descallers. Flammable and non-flammable materials should also be kept separately to prevent fire hazards.

3. Safe storage

Liquid storage tanks should be made with the recommended material according to store liquid. A secondary containment should be constructed around the storage tank to prevent spillage of liquid. Always keep a safe distance between flammable material storage tanks.

3. Preparedness

Preparedness against possible incidents according to hazards can decrease the incidents. Here are some factors that we could implement for preparedness against hazards.

  1. Training
    • Training EHS officers, EHS workers, and ERT members from registered and training organizations is essential. Conduct regular training sessions for employees on emergency response and control procedures. Ensure that employees are trained and well-prepared to handle potential future incidents.
  2. Drills
    • Drills are very essential for emergencies in the industry. Drills create awareness and make habits of workers against emergencies.
  3. Availability
    • Availability of all equipment that is used in case of emergency should be ensured. And it should be available near possible hazard areas according to hazard. Like, fire hazards, chemical spillage hazards, and accidents.
  4. Emergency points

4. Response

  1. ERT (Emergency Response Team)
    • Manage an ERT (emergency response team) by selecting active workers from the department and deputing them to tasks in case of emergency.
  2. Strong communication
    • An active and effective fire alarm system can minimize losses during an emergency. We can control an emergency before it is uncontrollable with the help of a fire alarm system.
  3. Responsibility
    • Every EHS worker and ERT member should be responsible during an emergency. And make a quick response at their need everywhere.

5. Recovery

Begin the recovery process by conducting a thorough assessment of the damage caused by the emergency incident.

1. Incident Investigation

  1. Losses management
    • Document the extent of the impact, including physical damage, injuries, and any other relevant information.
  2. Equipment Assessment and Infrastructure
    • Equipments Assessment due to the incident describes the current condition of the equipment. The incident how much damage these types of equipment.

2. Resume the Business

  1. Reestablish the Bussiness
    • Establish and regularly update business continuity plans. And ensure to customers that the organization can resume critical operations swiftly after an emergency incident.
    • Maintain transparent and regular communication with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and investors. Continuously update them on the recovery progress after the incident.
  2. Supply Chain Recovery
    • Evaluate and work on restoring disrupted supply chains.
    • Properly work on restoring the logistics system, including identifying alternative suppliers and logistics routes.
    • Implement contingency plans to minimize the impact of disruptions due to incidents on the supply chain.

6. Record

  1. Causes of emergency
    • Find out the reasons for the incident or emergency and keep it recorded. And make a road map for the future to prevent these incidents.
  2. Negalencies
    • Enlist all negligence and warn all employees about the negligence that cause this incident.
  3. Impacts
    • Enlist all the bad impacts on the business of the incident and try to overcome these impacts.
