Unloading of Diesel and Furnace oil tanker

Unloading of flammable liquids like diesel, furnace oil, and petrol needs very careful.

1. Oil tanker should be parked at a level surface near the storage tank. And place the wheel chocker under the front wheel of the oil tanker.

2. A senior engineer or authorized person checks the tanker seal and documents. Then take the decision to unload the tanker.

3. Earth the oil tanker to remove the charge altogether.

4. Open the all main holes of all compartments. To exhaust the vapors.

5. Inspect all hoose, pipes, and clamps before unloading.

6. In winter start the steam heater to increase the temperature of furnace oil. Otherwise, it takes more time to transfer to the storage tank.

7. Check the furnace oil level in the storage tank and note the reading.

8. Connect the hose pipe with the oil tanker and the other end with the transfer pump. Put a drop pan under the valve of the oil tanker because in case of leakage save the oil.

9. After all precautions and checking open the valves and switch on the transfer pump.

10. To transfer oil from all compartments follow the same procedure.

11. After the complete transfer of furnace oil disconnect the hose and keep it in a safe place.

12. Check visually all compartments of the oil tanker and ensure all compartments are empty.

13. Check the furnace oil level in the storage tank and compare it with the quantity of furnace oil written in documents.

14. In case of spillage and emergency contact your company concern officer or EHS/HSE officer.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Earth the oil tanker before starting unloading.

2. All operators should know about MSDS & NFPA of furnace oil.

3. All operators who work on the unloading process should wear gloves, aprons, and rubber shoes.

4. Gently Open the steam heater valve. To prevent shock in line.

5. Always clear and clean the unloading area. Don’t let anyone smoke or make the flame.
